GenIA-L for Search vs HAQQ

GenIA-L for Search states its own design in one sentence: it is "la première IA générative utilisant des contenus juridiques fiables" and it generates an answer "en se référant exclusivement aux bases de données juridiques Lefebvre Dalloz". That word, exclusively, is the whole product. It is why the tool is dependable on French law, and it is also the reason it has nothing to say about a Saudi data-protection question or a DIFC employment clause. This is a deliberate trade, not a gap someone forgot to fill, and a French firm should read it as a feature.

The output format is genuinely well designed and worth naming properly: a structured synthesis, a table of use cases with the rules that apply to each, a plain-language explanation aimed at non-lawyers, follow-up questions with answers, the legal sources behind the answer, and a checklist of points to watch. Very few legal AI products have thought this carefully about what a lawyer actually wants back from a query, and the plain-language output in particular is a real asset for client communication.

This is the detail that does not appear in the marketing and does appear in the contract, and it is the single most useful thing to know before an evaluation. GenIA-L's terms of use define "Fonds Documentaires" as the perimeter of the subscriptions the client has taken out, and state that it is on that basis that the AI module produces its syntheses. The answer set is therefore your subscription, not the publisher's library. Two firms can put the same question to GenIA-L and get materially different answers because they bought different tiers.

The same terms disclose a monthly query allowance without publishing the number: unused queries do not roll over and are not refundable, and exceeding the allowance can lead to access restrictions or additional billing. None of this makes GenIA-L a bad product, it is a normal publisher licensing model, but it means a pilot needs to be run on the subscription you would actually buy, and that per-seat cost is not fully knowable from the outside.

Lefebvre Dalloz markets GenIA-L against the "risque d'hallucination" it attributes to general-purpose AI, on the strength of a corpus validated by its editorial teams. That is a fair pitch and the grounding is real. Its binding terms of use, however, ask the client to acknowledge that given the technologies employed, the content of the syntheses "ne saurait être considéré comme exempt d’erreurs ou approximations issues des traitements algorithmiques", cannot be considered free of errors or approximations arising from algorithmic processing.

We do not read that as dishonesty; every vendor in this category, ourselves included, ships a model that can be wrong, and putting it in the contract is more candid than most. We flag it because the two documents are usually read separately, and a buyer comparing vendors on their marketing pages alone will draw a sharper distinction between grounded and ungrounded tools than either company's lawyers would defend. Grounding narrows the failure mode; it does not remove it. The honest question to ask any vendor here, us included, is not "can it hallucinate" but "can I check it", which is why every answer should arrive with a source you can open.

GenIA-L for Search is a research module. Its own terms describe it as producing syntheses in response to queries against a documentary corpus, and we found no mention anywhere on its pages of matter management, time tracking, client intake, invoicing or a document management system. That is not a criticism, it is not trying to be those things, and a French firm that already runs a practice-management suite may simply not need them from this vendor.

The choice between the two is rarely about which model is smarter. It is about whether your practice lives inside French law and inside a Lefebvre Dalloz subscription, in which case GenIA-L is a strong, well-built answer, or whether it crosses borders and languages, where a single-publisher corpus is a ceiling no amount of model quality raises.
