It's worth correcting how HeyCounsel is often filed: it is not a legal AI skills or prompts marketplace comparable to a registry like Lawvable. HeyCounsel is primarily a membership community for independent and solo lawyers, a Slack community with hundreds of member lawyers, education content, and peer benchmarking on rates and tech-stack spend, plus a separate matching service connecting startups and businesses with independent, fractional in-house counsel. Its own Terms of Service define it as operating a "Matching Service," not a skill library.

Its '@HeyCounsel' AI assistant, delivered via a Claude MCP integration, is grounded in the community's own accumulated knowledge, Slack history, education videos, member-vetted templates, benchmark survey data, rather than in case law or statutes. That's a meaningfully different product than a document-drafting or research AI.

HeyCounsel's genuine strength is peer-verified, practical knowledge no AI trained on public legal text can replicate: real billing rates, real vendor reviews, and real templates from named practicing lawyers. For a solo or small-firm lawyer's business-of-law questions, what to charge, which vendor to use, how to structure a fractional-GC engagement, that community data has no equivalent in a general legal-research or drafting AI like HAQQ.

What it doesn't offer is a practice platform: no case-law research, no drafting engine grounded in primary legal sources, no matter management, billing, or firm knowledge base. A lawyer might reasonably use both, HeyCounsel for community knowledge and peer benchmarking, HAQQ for the actual legal-AI work.
