A community and a matching marketplace, not a skill registry
It's worth correcting how HeyCounsel is often filed: it is not a legal AI skills or prompts marketplace comparable to a registry like Lawvable. HeyCounsel is primarily a membership community for independent and solo lawyers — a Slack community with hundreds of member lawyers, education content, and peer benchmarking on rates and tech-stack spend — plus a separate matching service connecting startups and businesses with independent, fractional in-house counsel. Its own Terms of Service define it as operating a "Matching Service," not a skill library.
Its '@HeyCounsel' AI assistant, delivered via a Claude MCP integration, is grounded in the community's own accumulated knowledge — Slack history, education videos, member-vetted templates, benchmark survey data — rather than in case law or statutes. That's a meaningfully different product than a document-drafting or research AI.
