    ÎncepeProgramează o demonstrație

    One country, or 200+

OpenCase is a serious research tool. Its Sources Portal lists 88 indexed sources totalling just over 7.1 million rows, all of them filed under Federal / National for the United States: CourtListener opinions, the Harvard Caselaw Access Project, the eCFR, GovInfo and the Federal Register. If your matters are American, that is a good corpus and the Word plugin puts it where you draft. HAQQ is built for the firms that corpus does not reach. It covers 200+ countries, answers in Arabic natively, and folds contract review, practice management and billing into the same platform instead of leaving them to other tools.

    A corpus with a border

OpenCase publishes exactly what it indexes, and every source on that list is United States federal or national material. A research tool is only as good as the law behind it, and that law stops at one country.

Arabic as a first language, not a translation

HAQQ is built for MENA practice, so Arabic is a working language of the product rather than a setting applied to an English answer.

The rest of the practice, not just the research

OpenCase adds calendaring and time tracking around its research core. HAQQ runs contract review, drafting, practice management and billing in one place, with an on-premise option for firms that need it.

What OpenCase indexes, in its own numbers

OpenCase is unusually open about its corpus, and that is to its credit. The Sources Portal is a public page listing every dataset behind the product, with row counts and the date each was last refreshed. At the time of checking it showed 88 indexed sources and 7,109,854 rows, with CourtListener supplying more than 4.2 million cases, the Harvard Caselaw Access Project a further 507,370, and the eCFR, GovInfo and the Federal Register covering regulations.

The homepage describes the same foundation: training on Cornell LII datasets of United States statutes and Supreme Court opinions, daily indexes of federal and state opinions and RECAP dockets, and authenticated PDFs from GovInfo. Every one of those is an American source. The country selector on the Sources Portal is set to the United States and the 88 sources are all filed under Federal / National.

    Where a single-country corpus stops

A retrieval-grounded research tool earns its keep by answering from primary law rather than from model memory. That is the whole argument for building one, and OpenCase makes it well inside the United States. The consequence is that the value falls away at the corpus boundary, because outside it the same product has nothing to retrieve and is left doing what any general model does.

This is our opinion rather than a claim about their roadmap, and it is the reason we built HAQQ the way we did. A firm in Dubai, Riyadh or Cairo is not served by an American case law index, however good it is. Free zone instruments, regional codes and Arabic-language sources are not edge cases for those firms, they are the daily work. HAQQ covers 200+ countries so that the grounding travels with the lawyer.

Drafting surface and the tools around the research

OpenCase puts its research where lawyers write. It ships a Microsoft Word add-in, listed on the Microsoft marketplace, that surfaces authorities and extracts citations while you draft, and it lists connectors for Google Docs, Outlook, Clio, Google Drive and Dropbox. It has also grown calendaring, case monitoring and time tracking around the research core, so it is no longer only a search box.

HAQQ approaches the same problem from the other end. Rather than adding practice tools to a research engine, it runs drafting, contract review, research, practice management and billing as one platform, with an on-premise deployment for firms whose data cannot leave their building. Which shape fits better depends on whether research is the job or one part of it.

    Which one should you pick?

    Choose OpenCase

    • Your practice is United States litigation and nothing else. The corpus behind OpenCase was built for exactly that work, and CourtListener, Harvard CAP and RECAP dockets are the right sources for it.
    • You draft in Microsoft Word and want authorities surfaced in the document rather than in another tab. Their Word add-in is a first-class surface, not an afterthought.
    • You want to see the corpus before you trust it. Publishing a Sources Portal with row counts and refresh dates is more transparency than most of this market offers, and it lets you check the grounding yourself.
    • You want to start without a sales call. The free Basic plan runs 3 research questions a day, and Pro and Business prices are published rather than quoted.

    Choose HAQQ

    • Your matters touch law outside the United States. HAQQ covers 200+ countries.
    • You work in Arabic. HAQQ treats it as a working language of the product rather than a translation layer over an English answer.
    • You want research, drafting, contract review, practice management and billing in one platform instead of a research tool plus a practice management tool plus a billing tool.
    • Your data cannot sit in a United States cloud. HAQQ offers an on-premise deployment; OpenCase states that data is stored in the United States.

    Switching from OpenCase

If your work is genuinely split, the honest answer is that these two do not have to be an either or. Firms with a real United States caseload sometimes keep OpenCase for American research and run HAQQ for everything else, and we would rather say that than pretend the choice is obvious.

For firms moving across, the work is mostly about where the documents live. OpenCase keeps uploads in projects and folders and connects to Google Drive, SharePoint and Dropbox on its paid tiers, so the usual route is to pull documents back from the connector rather than out of the product.

    1. List the matters that are purely United States law. Those are the ones where OpenCase is doing work HAQQ is not built to replace.
    2. Export or re-sync your uploaded documents from the cloud connector you already use, rather than from OpenCase itself.
    3. Rebuild your active matters in HAQQ and point the knowledge base at the same document sources.
    4. Run both for a cycle on live work before you cancel anything, and compare on the jurisdictions you actually practise in.

    The verdict

OpenCase is a well-built United States case law research engine with an unusually transparent corpus. HAQQ is the choice when the work crosses borders, runs in Arabic, or needs the rest of the practice in one place.

The two products are not really competing for the same lawyer. OpenCase has chosen depth in one jurisdiction and publishes exactly what that depth rests on. HAQQ has chosen reach, because the firms we build for work across 200+ countries and in Arabic, and because research is only one part of what fills their week.

Best for: Firms working across MENA and emerging markets, in Arabic as well as English, that want research, drafting and practice management in one platform

    Întrebări frecvente

Does OpenCase cover law outside the United States?

Its own Sources Portal lists 88 indexed sources under a United States country selector, all classified as Federal / National, drawn from CourtListener, the Harvard Caselaw Access Project, the eCFR, GovInfo and the Federal Register. We have seen no published corpus for any other jurisdiction. HAQQ covers 200+ countries.

    Does OpenCase work in Arabic?

OpenCase does not market Arabic support and its indexed corpus is United States material in English. Its underlying model will reply in other languages if asked, but that is the model answering, not a corpus of Arabic-language law behind it. HAQQ treats Arabic as a working language of the product.

What does OpenCase cost, and is there a free tier?

OpenCase publishes its pricing: a free Basic plan capped at 3 research questions per day, Pro at $99 per seat per month, Business at $150 per seat per month, and Enterprise on request. Both products publish their prices, which is not universal in this market.

Is OpenCase a full practice management platform?

Not primarily. It is a legal research engine that has added calendaring, case monitoring and time tracking around the research core. It does not present itself as a full practice management suite, and we have seen no published invoicing layer. HAQQ runs practice management and billing alongside the AI work.

    Where does OpenCase store data?

Its pricing page states that data is stored in the United States, with AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.2 or above in transit, and that uploads are not used to train models. Firms with data residency requirements outside the United States should read that carefully. HAQQ offers an on-premise option.

    Does OpenCase have an API?

It publishes API documentation and lists API access and custom integrations under its Enterprise plan rather than its self-serve tiers. If programmatic access matters to you, it is a sales conversation on either side.

    Which one is more accurate?

That depends entirely on the jurisdiction. Inside United States federal law OpenCase is retrieving from a large, current and openly documented corpus, and accuracy questions there are fair to put to them directly. Outside it, there is no published corpus to retrieve from. We would rather point you at their Sources Portal and let you judge the fit than quote a score at you.
