Microsoft Copilot is Microsoft's general-purpose AI assistant, embedded in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams, the exact tools most law firms and in-house teams already run their document workflows on. It makes no claim to be a legal-specific product, so the honest comparison is general productivity AI versus purpose-built legal AI, not a knock on Copilot for lacking legal grounding it never promised.

That native placement is a genuine distribution advantage: no new tool to adopt, predictable per-seat business pricing bundled into an existing Microsoft 365 relationship, and enterprise compliance controls IT departments already know. Microsoft states Copilot prompts and responses aren't used to train its foundation models, and it operates under Microsoft's EU Data Boundary commitment for major Microsoft 365 services.

Copilot carries the same hallucination and accuracy risk as any LLM, and provides no legal-specific grounding, jurisdiction awareness, or default case-law citation, legal use requires the same human-verification discipline HAQQ asks of its own users, without the citation-integrity layer HAQQ builds specifically for legal work.

Copilot does support Arabic for text-based prompts and responses, per Microsoft's own support documentation, dating to an April 2024 language expansion. A third-party report also describes Microsoft routing some EU/EFTA Copilot inference outside its EU Data Boundary by default during peak demand as of April 2026, worth knowing for any GDPR-sensitive evaluation, though we could not independently confirm that specific claim against a Microsoft first-party announcement.
