Anthropic Agent Skills vs HAQQ

Agent Skills is not a vendor competing with HAQQ — it's a capability of Anthropic's Claude platform, publicly launched in October 2025, that lets any developer package reusable instructions ('skills') that Claude loads when relevant to a task. Anthropic ships some pre-built Skills for document work (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, PDF) and anyone can author custom ones; skill names are even barred from containing the words 'anthropic' or 'claude,' underscoring that this is a general-purpose primitive, not an Anthropic product line.

Anthropic publishes an open-source 'claude-for-legal' plugin suite on GitHub as one example of Agent Skills applied to legal workflows, but it is not a commercial legal product with a fixed roster of agents. Community registries — most notably Lawvable — have built actual legal-specific skill libraries on top of the same mechanism.

The fairest framing, and the one this comparison uses honestly: a Skill is a recipe — a set of instructions — not a kitchen. It has no memory of your matters, no billing, no audit trail, and nothing tying a drafting session to a client file. That gap is true of the entire skill-registry category built this way, including Lawvable, not a shortcoming unique to Anthropic's feature.

The genuine advantage is reach and cost: Skills are free to build, instantly usable by anyone already paying for Claude, work across every domain (not just legal), and inherit Anthropic's own frontier-model improvements rather than depending on one vertical product's roadmap. For a technically capable legal team willing to author and maintain its own instructions, that flexibility is real.
